The Department of History has been in existence right from the inception of the College. Earlier it was a composite Department in union with Economics and Politics with Sri G Srirama Murthy garu as Head of the Department in 1949. In 1958 Economics was delinked and Sri M Jagannadha Rao became the Head of the History Department. Sri M Srinivasachari and Sri Govindachari were on the faculty. Sri G Ramachandra Rao joined the faculty in 1969. All the members of the Department were reputed for their amenities and scholarliness and it is not an exaggeration to say that their great contribution is the main spring of the successes of the College. Having been impressed with the exceptional excellence of Sri G Ramachandra Rao, the then chief Mnister of A.P Sri N T Rama Rao took him as special PRO in his Government. Sri G David Samuel Prasad joined the Department in 1973 and became the Head of the Department in 1993.
Mrs. T Malleswari, Mr. D Henry Edward, Mr. M Suseela Rao, Mr. S Soma Sekhar served the Department. Mrs. T Malleswari, and Mr. M Suseela Rao were selected by APPSC as Degree College lecturers in 1990. Mr. D Henry Edward was absorbed in 1992, and became the Head of the Department of History in 2004 and served the Department for a period of 11 years.

Present faculty and years of service:
In 1989 Mr. S Soma Sekhar who was appointed as a part time lecturer and he was absorbed as Aided lecturer in Nov, 2000 and he was deputed to St. Theresa’s College Eluru for a period of 4years. Later, he rejoined in Sri Y N Collge (A) in 2004 August and became In charge of the Department in March, 2015.
After that, he was selected for M.Phil program in 12th Plan under FDP in May, 2016 and he was relieved from his duties on 27th May, 2016 to Join pursue M.Phil in Nagarjuna University
In, June, 2016 Mr P Mani Raju was appointed as FDP substitute in the Department of History.

1. The Department offers Certificate Course “ Freedom Struggle” for Second B.A students.
2. Our Department Members are appointed as Advisory Members, in many committees like Discipline committee, anti ragging committee, Admission Committee etc in our College.
3. 60% of students are going for further studies i.e., B.Ed, B.L and post graduation.
4. The pass percentage of our students has been about 92% continuously for the last five years.
5. Our Department members have presented Papers in National and International Seminars.
6. Some articles of our Department Members got published in various Journals.
7. Some of the students got selection in Department of Education and Police Department.
8. With the encouragement of the Department, students take part in Blood Donation Camps, Pushkarams, NCC and NSS.

Recent Achievements
1. Our Alumni Dr P V Subba Rao got Ph.D degree in 2016.
2. Some of the students presented papers in National Seminars.
3. Our students got State Prathibha Awards during 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
4. Our students won many prizes in Essay writings, Elocution and Quiz competitions.
5. Our Staff Member Mr. S. Soma Sekhar was selected for M.Phil program in 12th Plan under FDP in May, 2016.
